PLANT - SNAPDRAGON: TALL DELUXE
Beautiful, 30-36 inch flower spikes in a brilliant range of colors: pink, red, yellow, lavender, and rose shades. Native to southern Europe. Snapdragons bloom best in well-drained, moist soil, in cool late-spring or early-summer temperatures. They can tolerate light shade but bloom much better in full sun.
Snapdragons tend to stop producing flowers when hot weather arrives, but they will usually re-bloom when the weather cools off in late summer if you cut back the spent flower stalks. Keep plants well-watered during the growing season, especially during hot and dry spells. Plants need about 1 inch of rain per week during the growing season. Keep the soil moist but not saturated.
PRO TIP: If growing taller snapdragons for cut flowers, the best time to cut them is in morning, putting the flower stalks directly into a container of water. Flower stems last longest (7 to 10 days) if they’re cut when only the bottom 3 to 5 flowers are open. Make sure to keep them upright, otherwise horizontal stems (even for an hour or two) will begin to curve upright (“geotropism”— a response to gravity).
PRO TIP2: Gophers love them -- plant in containers -- or protect from gophers with wire around roots, etc.
