PLANT - KOHLRABI: WHITE
‘Early White Vienna's’ round, luminous light-green, planetary bulbs are packed with creamy white, tender flesh with a sweet turnipy flavor. 19th century heirloom’s crisp, juicy flesh and younger leaves are delectable raw or steamed. The smooth, pale green bulbs have a crisp, white flesh and mild, cabbage-like flavor—perfect for slicing into sticks and eating fresh. Also tasty boiled, creamed, frozen, in soups and pickled. For optimum flavor and texture, harvest when the bulbs are 2 to 2½ in. across. Will continue producing throughout the summer. Heat-tolerant.
Plant outside late March - early May. Kohlrabi requires 45 to 60 days to reach maturity and should be grown so that it comes to harvest before temperatures average greater than 75°F (23.9°C).
PRO TIP: Companion plants. Beets, celery, herbs, onions, potatoes. Do not plant with pole beans, strawberries or tomatoes.
